Aging in Place

Client Information:

Bob and Karen Zielaskowski have two houses, one in Boston for the Summer and Charleston in the Winter. They want to be able to use these homes for living but also enjoy having  guests and family over. The clients don’t have any ADA disabilities at the moment but want the homes ADA if they need to use it later on when they get older. The clients are also interested in having an informal casual look and love the idea of a “modern country” or farmhouse look. The clients want the kitchen and living room to be open to each other so while Karen is cooking she can stay connected with Bob or their guests when entertaining. The clients would also like some smart house features such as lighting apps and being able to lock and unlock the front door from their phone. The guest bedroom has enough space for all three grandchildren and has built in storage for toys.

Design Goals:

The goal for this project is to design a residence at two different locations, one summer home and one winter home. The project will include solutions for both relaxation time and socialization such as hosting holidays and parties or just spending time with friends and family. The clients want a spacious, open floor plan that connects the living room and kitchen as they are primary spaces of use. Warm inviting tones with the use of natural materials will be used within the space. The space will offer a universal design and flexible space.
